News & stories Stories Read our blogs A fun way to fundraise From an early age I always knew the importance of helping others. I began my fundraising for charitable causes in my late teens. As a photographer based in Brentwood, I knew that Haven House Children’s Hospice provides the very best care for families. I wanted to use my experience as a former Trustee of a children's charity and volunteer fundraiser to help with raising funds in a fun and exciting way. To celebrate my 30th birthday in 2014 I set myself the ambitious challenge of collecting 30 extraordinary prizes for Haven House’s special events. I wanted to obtain unique donations which could be used to raise funds and awareness for the charity. I started writing emails to celebrities and I was quickly amazed by the response. Over the years donated prizes have included a luxury stay at the illustrious Azzurra Castle in Grenada, tickets to the X-Factor live final and a photoshoot with celebrity photographer Nicky Johnston. Being able to make a difference is such a wonderful gift. I feel extremely privileged to have worked with so many extraordinary individuals and businesses. Donors have included Sir Andy Murray, Christian Louboutin, Boodles, Peter de Savary, Philip Treacy OBE, Usain Bolt, Kate Moss, Soho House, Syco Entertainment and many others. Every penny raised benefits Haven House. Despite almost reaching my initial target of £100,000, I have no intention of slowing down my fundraising. I aim to collect even more incredible prizes for Haven House’s Big Birthday Ball which takes places at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London on 11 October. It’s going to be an amazing Ball this year and certainly not to be missed! Haven House is such a special charity and ultimately, I want to be able to raise enough to fund one month’s care. When you see the difference the hospice makes to families, it inspires you to do even more. Read more of our team blogs from our staff, families and volunteers.
