News & stories Stories Team blogs Time to volunteer This month we are celebrating the incredible contribution of our volunteers as part of Volunteers’ Week which runs from 1-12 June. We really could not do without them. Each year around 300 volunteers get involved with us in some way - and we are always need more help. Our volunteers help us to raise our profile in the local community and raise vital funds for the hospice. They also help us to expand our services and support more life-limited children and their families. Volunteering can be a lot of fun and is a great way of meeting new people and making new friends. It can also take your life in an exciting new direction. As someone who came into the charitable sector through volunteering, I definitely appreciate the impact it has had on my life. Our volunteers are all different and we are very proud of them. They range in age from 16-84 years old and some have been with us for more than 10 years. Many volunteers also benefit from learning new skills and building up valuable work experience, to help them get paid work in the future. We welcome volunteers at all stages of their lives and we rely on volunteers to help in a variety of different ways. For example we have a new charity store opening in Romford and we are particularly looking for volunteers in this area. You could become a Haven House champion and help us at a fundraising event. This could include running a stall with a fundraising game, an information stand or selling raffle tickets. We also do monthly bucket collections at train stations, locally and in the City, and we are always looking for volunteers to help us ‘hold a bucket’ for two hours per month. You could help to place our Red House collection boxes in local businesses and shops. We also look for people who can help us connect with schools and community groups to help distribute flyers and raise the profile of our events. The volunteering opportunities are endless and by giving your time; even a couple of hours a month; you can help make a big difference to life-limited children and their families. So please get in touch with us today as we would love to hear from you.
