A care assistant will provide additional support that enables the nurses and health care support workers to enhance the service that we provide. This volunteer role is vital in helping to ensure our children and famiies receive the best possible service.

Interested volunteers need to be aged over 18 and have some experience of working or volunteering with children. Before starting with us there will be mandatory training to complete which is both face to face and online.

This volunteering role will run in the school holidays and some weekends, timings are flexible.

Core responsibilities:

  • Assisting the team in getting the bedrooms ready for new admissions and clearing the bedrooms when they have gone home
  • Meeting and welcoming families as they arrive at the hospice
  • If appropriate giving families a tour of the premises
  • Assisting families with luggage
  • Making refreshments for families
  • Where appropriate assist with siblings activities while parents are talking to nursing staff
  • Assisting with itinerary lists
  • Keeping areas clean and tidy
  • Working alongside a care team member to assist in engaging the child or young person in activities
  • Other duties as identified by the care staff on duty and agreed with the volunteer.
