News & stories News Education Secretary praises Haven House Education Secretary Nicky Morgan has praised Haven House Children’s Hospice and has urged more local schools to support its work. The Cabinet minister said the hospice performed “an incredible role in enabling life-limited children to continue access education, learning and play.” Mrs Morgan made the comments following Children’s Hospice Week which took place on 23-29 May. The Education Secretary said: “Haven House supports 329 children in North and North East London, West Essex and East Hertfordshire. Haven House performs an incredible role in enabling life-limited children to continue access education, learning and play. It also provides vital support to the siblings of children who use the hospice with its ‘Buddies’ service.” Mrs Morgan praised the hospice for working with nearly 70 primary and secondary schools, colleges and nurseries in North East London and West Essex. Haven House regularly goes into schools and conduct workshops for staff and students on how they can support life-limited children and their families. The Conservative MP said she wanted to see even more schools support the charity. “I want as many schools as possible to continue the good work of Children’s Hospice Week by making contact with their local children’s hospice and finding about all of the different ways they can support their work. “With National Volunteers’ Week taking place in the first week of June – this is really a great time to get involved with your local children’s hospice. Together we can make a difference to the lives of life-limited children.” Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House, said: “We are delighted to receive the support of the Education Secretary following Children’s Hospice Week. “Nicky Morgan is absolutely right to state the importance of schools in making sure children who use hospices such as Haven House can still access education, learning and play. “Schools can support us at every level whether that’s through fundraising, volunteering or raising awareness of our work. We are always happy to hear from them.” If your school would like to support the work of Haven House, please visit our schools and colleges page.
