Incredible Haven House supporter Loraine Midda has been presented with an MBE for parliamentary and voluntary service by the Duke of Cambridge.

It was announced in June that Loraine, who lives in Woodford Green, would receive the MBE as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours in recognition of her dedication to her job at the Houses of Parliament and for her support for Haven House.

On Thursday 23 November, in an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace, the Duke of Cambridge presented Loraine with her MBE as her daughter Gia Nathan, son Harrison Midda, and husband Martin looked on. Loraine was also joined by her sister, Carina Harris, and extended family.

Speaking afterwards Loraine said: “The Duke of Cambridge is such a lovely man and completely put me at ease. I discussed my role and we had a giggle too, he was just so natural. I managed the curtseys with no problem.

“The smile I had stayed for hours. To be honoured for undertaking a role that I love within Parliament and my involvement with Haven House Children’s Hospice is such a joy and privilege.”

Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House, said: “We are delighted that Loraine has been presented with an MBE by the Duke of Cambridge.

“She has long been a wonderful supporter of Haven House and her recognition with this honour is so thoroughly deserved.”

On Thursday 11 January, Loraine plans to hold a Haven House Big Tea Par-Tea in Parliament with her family, friends and colleagues as a way of celebrating her MBE.

Loraine, who is the Digital Service Head of Member Services for the House of Lords at Parliament, has supported Haven House for many years. In 2016 she raised funds by abseiling from the top of the ArcelorMittal Orbit at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

As well as general fundraising for Haven House she has also encouraged her colleagues in Parliament to support the charity when they attend the mindfulness classes which she holds as part of her involvement in a wider range of holistic activities such as coaching and mentoring.

If you have been inspired by Loraine why not hold a Big Tea Par-Tea for Haven House?
