News & stories MBE for Loraine A kind-hearted Woodford Green resident says she is “surprised, delighted and humbled” after receiving an MBE for parliamentary and voluntary service in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. Loraine Midda, of Sydney Road, was awarded the honour in recognition of her dedication to her job at the Houses of Parliament and for her support for Haven House Children’s Hospice. Loraine, who is the Digital Service Head of Member Services for the House of Lords at Parliament, has supported Haven House for many years. Last summer she raised funds by abseiling from top of the ArcelorMittal Orbit at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. As well as general fundraising for Haven House on a regular basis she has also encouraged her colleagues in Parliament to support the charity when they attend the mindfulness classes which she holds as part of her involvement in a wider range of holistic activities such as coaching and mentoring. When she attends her investiture, later in the year, to receive the MBE, Loraine plans to hold a Haven House Par-Tea bake sale to celebrate. Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House, said: “We are delighted that Loraine has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours with an MBE. “Loraine has been a strong and active supporter of our hospice for many years and her generous fundraising has helped us care for more life-limited children and their families. “As a local resident, we can always expect to see Loraine volunteering at our annual fundraising events such as our Summer Fayre on 2 July. She is a fantastic champion of Haven House and her energy and enthusiasm inspires us all.” Roll up for our circus-themed Summer Fair on Sunday 2 July.
