A performing arts academy celebrated its 13th birthday by putting on a wonderful show followed by a glamorous awards ceremony in aid of Haven House Children’s Hospice.

Around 300 young people and parents from RAW Academy took part in the black-tie event at Forest School in Snaresbrook on Saturday 6 February.

RAW Academy, which provides weekly drama, singing and dance workshops for young people aged five to 20, raised £3,500 for Haven House which supports life-limited children and their families in the London Borough of Redbridge.

Samantha Edmonds, who runs the academy, organised the evening along with her husband, Graham and friend Mel Field. They have supported Haven House for many years.

Mel developed close links with the hospice following the death of her eight-year-old daughter who enjoyed performing with RAW Academy.

Molly Field died at home from an inoperable brain tumour six months after diagnosis in September 2010. The morning after Molly passed away, Mel and her family went to stay at Haven House, their local children’s hospice in Woodford Green.

Haven House left a lasting impact on Mel and her family who have raised more than £100,000 for the charity. Molly’s younger sister, Isabella, has continued to receive support from Buddies, Haven House’s sibling support group, and she also performs regularly with RAW Academy.

Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House, said: “We would like to congratulate everyone at RAW Academy for raising an impressive amount for Haven House. It’s always great to see young people in our community supporting local life-limited children and their families.”
