Haven House will begin an exciting period of refurbishments in early 2018 to mark our 15th birthday year.

The hospice in Woodford Green has received funding from the DM Thomas Foundation for Young People, Galliard Homes, Matchroom Foundation, M & G Foundation, Sir Jules Thorn Charitable Trust, Story of Christmas and the Wolfson Foundation, meaning it can upgrade the care facilities.

In early January work will start to install a bigger and brighter lift to access the bedrooms, the facilities on the first floor will be redesigned and a new kitchen/café area will be added downstairs for families to enjoy.

Whilst these essential building works are taking place, Haven House’s respite and residential services will move to the Holly Private Hospital in Buckhurst Hill for a period of 12 – 16 weeks with the entire care team transferring from Monday 8 January 2018.

All therapeutic support such as physiotherapy, music therapy and yoga therapy will continue to be provided in the Holistic Care Centre at Haven House and will not be affected by the building work.

Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House, said: “We are very grateful to our corporate supporters who have generously funded these essential refurbishments and to The Holly for offering use of their premises for the period of our building work.

“Having access to such wonderful premises means we and the children and families we support can be confident care will be able to continue to our normal excellent standards, without disruption of our services. We are very much looking forward to working alongside The Holly’s excellent staff and to building an even stronger partnership long into the future.”

David Henderson, Hospital Director at The Holly Private Hospital, said: “We have long been supporters of the wonderful work carried out by Haven House Children’s Hospice and our staff regularly host events here at the hospital to help raise money for the hospice. When we heard Haven House might have to close their doors for three months to carry out this essential work we knew we had to find a way to try and help them. We’re delighted to be welcoming Haven House and all the children, young people and families who use their services.”
