News & stories News School Enterprise Project Award Enterprising pupils show commitment and passion for Haven House Haven House School enterprise project raises highest total to date A total of 72 students, nine schools, 18 teachers and staff from Galliard Homes celebrated raising a staggering £23,453 for Haven House Children’s Hospice. A special awards evening was held at Redbridge Drama Centre to mark the end of the Schools Enterprise Project, an initiative aimed at raising vital funds for Haven House. Back in September, teams of students from participating schools, were tasked with turning a £50 seed capital into £1500 for the hospice, by using key business skills to put on a range of fundraising events and activities. In addition to sponsoring the event, Galliard Homes provided two mentors per school to give practical support and share business skills, including planning and budgeting, to help the teams to reach their goal. Ginny Donnelly from Haven House said: “I am always inspired by the young people taking part in this project and witnessing their enthusiasm, commitment, hard work and passion for Haven House is a real privilege. Although only teams of 8 students take part, the whole school is integral to the success of this project, and we are so grateful for their support." “This year’s schools have exceeded all expectations and raised a fantastic total - the highest to date. This will make such a difference to the children and families supported by Haven House, and we can’t thank them enough.” Over a 12-week period pupils put on a range of activities including tuck shops, cake sales, raffles, sporting activities, concerts, car washes, busking and even a 2,000 km challenge! The commitment, passion and resilience shown by the students and their teachers against the backdrop of school commitments, exams and the challenge of restrictions caused by the pandemic was nothing short of inspiring. The students thoroughly enjoyed this process and taken advantage of the multiple benefits from being involved - learning a range of transferable skills; working as a team; building confidence & self-esteem; working on a project that benefits the local community and for Year 12s, adding value to their UCAS forms and CVs. All this on top of the opportunity of working alongside professionals from Galliard Homes. Kat Pinnell, Head of Drama and Careers Lead at Woodbridge High School said: “Leading a group of students through the Haven House enterprise project was nothing short of awesome! As a teacher, I strive to instill in the young people I reach the importance of community, independence and social action. This programme encapsulates all of these elements and so much more. The students were empowered to reach out to local businesses, their school community and mentors from Galliard Homes and also learn about the most incredible cause; Haven House. Planning, running events and leading others is such a brilliant experience that I know students will remember for years to come! Thank you to Haven House and Galliard Homes for this brilliant project!"
