A group of 20 intrepid cyclists set off for the annual Financial News London-Monte Carlo Cycle Challenge on Saturday (14th June).

Haven House dad, Scott Jackson, joined them at the start of the ride, with son Thomas who uses the hospice’s services. They rode the first mile with the team in a specially adapted cycle.

Scott from South Woodford said of the challenge: ‘Thomas was fortunate to receive a specially adapted bike many years ago and he has experienced the same thrill of riding, that every child can enjoy.’

He continues; ‘We were delighted to ride the first mile with the Financial News riders and help set them off on their epic journey – Thomas loved being part of his first peloton and crossing the Thames on Blackfriars bridge.’

Haven House Chief Executive, Mike Palfreman added; ‘Increasing numbers of City institutions are taking on fundraising challenges for Haven House and we wish the Financial News team all the very best as they make their way across France.’

Sponsored by Dassault, Societe Generale and Fundamental Media, and in association with FundForum 2014, the team comprises a mix of Dow Jones staff as well as readers and clients from a range of companies.

The team will cycle 850 miles in 8 days across challenging terrain, from the below-sea-level flatland of Nord-Pas-de-Calais to the alpine heights of Mont Ventoux.

With a team fundraising goal of more than £50,000, each cyclist will raise at least £2,000 in personal sponsorship pledges, with the proceeds going to two charities: Haven House Children’s Hospice and The Soup Kitchen.
