Haven House and Richard House are independent hospice charities supporting life-limited children and their families across 16 London boroughs, West Essex and East Hertfordshire.

Haven House Children's Hospice was first conceived in the early 1990s, as the brainchild of Sue Irwin a registered nurse and health visitor, who with friends and colleagues founded the charity to provide care to life-limited children and their families at no cost to them. Since it opened in 2003, we have supported over 600 families, looking after children and young people aged from birth to 19 years old who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.

Richard House Children’s Hospice supports families in London whose children and young adults are at risk of death from a life-limiting health condition.

From the moment a child is diagnosed with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, everything changes. And these changes affect the whole family. Children can have profound multiple disabilities, be vulnerable to health complications and face distressing and sometimes painful treatment. Families face these daily struggles against the backdrop of a difficult reality- that their child will not live to adulthood. We offer specialised clinical care, respite breaks, art, music and play therapy, fun days out and end-of-life care - supporting children and families through their journey from life to death to ensure that it is positive and dignified.
