Former Haven House chief executive Mike Palfreman and friends Paul Turrell and Simon Fanning will once again set out on their mammoth 870-mile walking challenge next week (Saturday 28 August).

Last year, Paul and Simon completed the epic walk from Scotland to Cornwall, clocking up an incredible 1,725,000 steps. This year, they will be completing the route in reverse, from south to north, and hope to drum up support for two hospices Haven House, and Jersey Hospice Care.

The group will have plenty of encouragement along the way, thanks to the support of over 50 friends and colleagues who will be joining them for many of the 32 legs of the walk. On average they will cover a staggering 27 miles (more than a marathon) a day along the highways and byways of the UK. The gruelling feat will sure be an amazing blend of euphoria, fatigue, camaraderie, along with an enormous sense of achievement.

Mike, who has recently left Haven House after a decade as chief executive, completed 500 miles of the route last year and is aiming for the same this time.

He said: “Making the walk a joint event, both marks my move from Haven House to Jersey Hospice Care and celebrates the shared aims of all hospices across the UK; to help bring dignity and choice to those living with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, of whatever age, and to live life to the full.”

All funds raised will be split 50/50 between Jersey Hospice Care and Haven House Children’s Hospice and will be even more critical at this time in enabling both hospices to withstand the impact of the ongoing pandemic.
