Turn up the Volume is a fun activity for children and very easy for your staff to facilitate. Your sponsored sing can take place in a regular assembly and there are lots of fun ways that your school council and pupils can get involved. You can choose any date across the academic year and we can visit your school to present an assembly about the work of Haven House and to explain to the children how they can help other children. Our Lady of Lourdes School in Wanstead 'Turned Up the Volume' for Haven House with their Sing-a-thon, singing an incredible 34 songs in one hour and raising a magnificent £700! Well done everyone. Our pupils loved the chance to sing for a such a worthy cause. They totally got behind our Singathon, both in suggesting favourite songs to sing as well as giving so generously to Haven House. The event really lifted everybody`s spirits! I would thoroughly recommend all schools participating. Lizzie Teague - teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes Music therapy has meant that Kai now shows greater interaction with the outside world. He has learnt to sing along to the opening lines of his favourite ABC song and has started to form new sounds in an attempt to say words such as hello. Music is increasing his motivation to use his hands to play and explore, which was originally a huge challenge for him given his physical disability. Music makes us happy, it lifts our mood, relaxes us and evokes strong memories of people and places. We can all respond to and appreciate music despite disability or illness. At Haven House we provide a music therapy service for children and young people which aims to encourage new ways of communicating and exploring the world around them without the need for words.
