Handmade blankets to bring comfort to children and families We have received a beautiful donation of colourful crochet blankets for our Butterfly Suite. The blankets, which feature butterflies, flowers and hearts in pastel colours, have kindly been made by the voluntary organisation Woolly Hugs. They will be used to dress the bed in our end-of-life bedroom and can be taken home by our families. Woolly Hugs is an online community run entirely on a voluntary basis. It is hoped that through their work our babies, children and their families will feel love, support, comfort and a physical reassurance through the blankets. Haven House’s Family Support Worker Becki Josiah said: “The time, effort, love and care that each volunteer has put into creating these beautiful blankets is evident in every stitch. These blankets not only offer physical warmth but also emotional comfort. The blankets act as a little reminder that families aren’t going through this journey alone, their community is with them. They really are special.” A spokesperson for Woolly Hugs said: “We consider it a privilege to be able give comfort and are so grateful to be working with Haven House. At an intensely bleak and dark time there is still something very positive that we can do for these children. Our blankets are always handmade with love and compassion and so are perfect. We can help care for the whole bereaved family at this time by wrapping their child in a comforting woolly hug, whilst sending our love and thoughts.” Haven House is a leader in the children’s hospice sector nationally, providing an extraordinary range of services to communities with the highest needs in the country from the unique therapeutic environment in our historic building and woodland grounds. The demand for care and support for seriously ill children in our area is therefore amongst the highest and most complex in the country. All funding received will be deployed directly and rapidly on the care and support of our children and families.
