News & stories A Diana Award for Isabella A 12-year-old student who helped raise more than £110,000 for Haven House Children’s Hospice after losing her sister to cancer has received an award in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales. Isabella Field from Woodford Green is among 20 young people to be recognised by the Diana Award, a charity set up in memory of the late Princess who would have celebrated her 56th birthday on 1 July. The award recognises young people who have shown selfless determination to help others and aims to encourage more young people to engage in social action. Isabella, who attends Woodbridge High School, began fundraising for Haven House after her eight-year-old sister, Molly, died at home from an inoperable brain tumour in September 2010 six months after diagnosis. The morning after Molly passed away Isabella and her parents, Mel and Steve, went to stay at Haven House. Molly was laid to rest in the Butterfly Suite which enabled the family to say their final goodbyes. Haven House left a lasting impact on the family with Isabella, Mel and Steve, together raising more than £110,000 for the hospice in Woodford Green in the past seven years. Mel Field said: “I am always proud of Isabella's achievements and awards but this one feels different. Diana, Princess of Wales was an inspirational and beautiful woman, who always put her position and title to good use to help others. “Isabella's aspiration is to be an actress and use her fame, to be an ambassador for charitable organisations, just like the Princess.” Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Isabella has received a prestigious Diana Award. “It’s an amazing achievement and we are so grateful to Isabella and her family for the incredible support they have shown for our hospice over many years. “Isabella is a wonderful role model and we hope more young people can be inspired to help us support life-limited children and their families in our local area.” In November, Isabella was named ‘Best Young Fundraiser of the Year’ at the Institute of Fundraising Awards. In 2015, Isabella received the Young Citizen Award by Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland Award, a year after winning the prize for the London Borough of Redbridge.
