Amy Winehouse's legacy lives on through music at Haven House As we mark the 15th anniversary of Amy Winehouse's death today (23 July 2026), we're reflecting on the extraordinary impact the Amy Winehouse Foundation continues to have on children and families at Haven House. For more than a decade, the Foundation has been a valued supporter of our hospice, funding our dedicated music room and continuing to fund our Lead Music Therapist. Thanks to this incredible partnership, hundreds of seriously ill children have experienced the life-changing benefits of music therapy. At Haven House, music therapy is about so much more than making music. It creates opportunities for children to communicate, connect with those around them and express themselves in ways that words often cannot. For many children with complex or life-limiting conditions, music opens up new ways of interacting with their families and the world around them. Amelia Chapman, Lead Music Therapist at Haven House, said: “Music therapy provides a safe and supportive space where each child can take the lead, free to express themselves in their own way while working towards their individual therapeutic goals. "For many of the children we support, music becomes another way to communicate. It can reduce anxiety, encourage movement, strengthen family bonds and create moments of joy that might otherwise not be possible. Every session is unique because every child is unique. "Thanks to the continued support of the Amy Winehouse Foundation, hundreds of children and families have been able to experience the life-changing benefits of music therapy. That's an extraordinary legacy, and one that continues to make a difference every single day.” One child who has experienced that impact is three-year-old Marley, who has Tay-Sachs disease, a rare life-limiting genetic condition.Marley's mum, Chloe, said: “For us, music is a language. It's how we connect and how Marley expresses himself when words aren't possible. It gives him a voice, and through music we see his personality shine.” Every music therapy session at Haven House is tailored to the individual child. Whether through singing, instruments, movement or sensory experiences, our therapists create opportunities for children to communicate, build confidence, strengthen relationships and create precious memories with the people they love. Amy's legacy continues to make a lasting difference through the Amy Winehouse Foundation. Every day, we see the impact of that support in our music room, where children and families share moments of joy, connection and hope that will stay with them forever.
