More than 150 members of Blueprint Fitness in South Woodford, alongside friends and family, pushed themselves to the limit with a gruelling 24-hour sponsored workout to raise funds for our hospice.

The epic challenge saw 24 teams, push a 65 kilogram Prowler sled in relay, along a 15metre track for a continuous 24 hours achieving a total distance of 182,574kms – equivalent to travelling from Woodford to Lincoln.

The inspiration behind the challenge was to raise money for Haven House, the gym’s local children’s hospice, that supports two-year-old Carter Dunn and his family. Carter’s dad Jack, grandad Charlie, aunty Katie and godmother Lyndsey were amongst participants taking on the mammoth effort.

Carter has epilepsy, sleep apnoea, respiratory issues and has difficulty feeding and is supported by Haven House’s nurses, physiotherapists, music, and yoga therapists.

Carter’s mum Scarlett Lowry said:

“Carter just loves Haven House. We have some amazing teams on hand that support us as a family, and Carter as an individual. I don't know where we would be without the hospice. His twin Charlie loves it too - especially the playground!”

Lyndsey added the Woodford-Green based hospice, ‘had been beyond amazing with their support for Carter and his family.’

Lyndsey said: “It was an honour to take part in such a great event for a charity that does so much to support seriously ill children and their families when life becomes challenging. Thank you to some very big (and fit) hearts at Blueprint fitness – you all did a superb job.”

Pizza, beer, Bottomless Brunch, Breakfast Club, tunes from three different DJs…plus lots of caffeine, a heap load of laughter and cheers spurred participants on. Support extended beyond the gym walls as local businesses donated prizes for the raffle.

Sarah Harris, Haven House’s Community and Events Manger, said: “I have never seen a challenge of this scale, and it was simply incredible to watch the members of Blueprint Fitness come together for our families.

“Despite the heatwave, there were always people cheering each other on and a sense of community shining through. We are so grateful to all the members of Blueprint Fitness for their support and for making a meaningful difference to the lives of those who need it most. Congratulations to everyone.”
