Haven House has just appointed a new patron to its roster – the Brentwood-based businessman and sports impresario, Barry Hearn.

Dagenham born, Mr Hearn has been supporting the hospice for a number of years and he has raised £350,000 for the charity, through his many business and sporting ventures.

Haven House has been the chosen charity for both World Snooker and Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), thanks to Barry’s role as Chairman of both organisations. In addition he has secured a raft of sportspeople and auction prizes to assist the charity’s fundraising efforts.

Speaking about his new appointment, Barry Hearn explained; ‘I’ve really got to know the staff at Haven House over the years and have seen for myself the great work that the hospice does for children and families in the local community.’

He continues; ‘I’m proud to support Haven House and even prouder to have been made a patron.’

Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of the Woodford Green charity, added: ‘We’re delighted that Barry has accepted our invitation to become the hospice’s newest patron. Mr Hearn has been a key supporter for many years and we wanted to formally recognise his outstanding contribution.’

Mike continues; ‘As a patron, Mr Hearn will be joining an exclusive group of people who have supported our hospice over a long period of time, either through significant donations to our work or connecting us with others who share our vision in supporting local life-limited children and families.’
