Haven House Children’s Hospice has marked its 20th anniversary by burying a time capsule in its grounds.

Children, families, staff, and supporters gathered to bury the capsule near to a hazel tree that was gifted to the Woodford Green hospice from the Queen’s Canopy - a tree planting initiative created to mark Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

The time capsule was full of mementoes from 2023, including artwork made with a child’s fingerprints, photographs, a poem written by two hospice siblings, a handwritten message from hospice ambassador Harry Kane, a video showcasing the hospice and a special edition newsletter containing 20 inspiring stories.

Chief executive Gary Seager said:

“What a momentous achievement it is for us to be stood here today celebrating 20 years of supporting our community – the very community that are at the heart of our hospice. Our hope is that one day in the future, perhaps in another 20 years, when the time capsule is discovered, people will get a wonderful insight into what an extraordinary and much-loved place Haven House was in 2023.”
