In celebration of International Women’s Day we hosted an annual fundraising lunch to shine a light on inspiring women while raising funds.

The prestigious lunch, now in its fourth year, was held at The Savoy Hotel and saw leading women from a range of industries take to the stage for a series of powerful discussions.

Hosted by Professor of Computer Science and Technology Sue Black OBE the line-up included Women’s Editor at the Telegraph Claire Cohen, Director at Campbell Johnston Clark Maria Borg Barthet and CEO at Elior and Chair of Women of the Year Catherine Roe.

International Women’s Day is a worldwide event that celebrates women’s achievements – from the political to the social – while calling for gender equality. It is recognised each year on March 8.

It is not affiliated with any one group, but brings together governments, women's organisations, corporations and charities. The day is marked around the world with arts performances, talks, rallies, networking events, conferences and marches.

The theme for IWD 2020 is #EachforEqual, and the panel explored topics such as the gender pay gap, the ‘Me Too’ movement, Brexit, the power of social media, challenging stereotypes, fighting prejudice and celebrating women's achievements.

The event was also organised to raise funds for Haven House, which provides specialist care and support to seriously ill children and their families. Guests were invited to watch a video showing the story of three-year-old Annabelle Thomas who receives support from the hospice.

Speaking at the event the hospice’s Clinical Nurse Manager, Aisling Kilbane said:

In celebration of International Women’s Day, we were proud to host an event that started so many interesting, inspirational, and necessary conversations. Annabelle’s story is one of a wonderfully strong girl who fights every day to reach her full potential. It seems particularly timely for guests to hear about her during International Women’s Week.

Haven House would like to thank the host and panellists for giving their time for free and to the event sponsors Orbian Management.
