The Mayor of Broxbourne, Cllr Martin Greensmyth, has praised the dedication of staff at Haven House Children’s Hospice.

Mayor Greensmyth and the Mayoress of Broxbourne, Lesley Greensmyth, visited the charity in Woodford Green which supports children and their families in East Hertfordshire on Sunday 10 July.

The Mayor and Mayoress received a tour of the hospice and Holistic Care Centre and met with children and staff. They also spoke to volunteers who were getting ready to welcome thousands of people into the charity’s grounds for its annual Summer Fayre.

More than 1,200 people attended the annual event on Sunday including TV actors Vicki Michelle and Gary Lucy, both patrons of the charity.

Mayor Greensmyth said: "I was moved by all the staff that I met during my visit to Haven House on Sunday. It was clear to me that their involvement was seen as more than a job by them.

“I was shown various innovative projects that would improve the living experiences of the children and their families.

“The Mayoress and I were only able to visit for a short while, but we would love to be invited back again. Well done for all the hard work put in to organise Sunday's Summer Fayre".

Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House, said: “We are very grateful to the Mayor and Mayoress of Broxbourne for visiting the hospice on one of our most special days.

“The Mayor and Mayoress spent time speaking to our children and staff and volunteers at our Summer Fayre.

“We look forward to seeing the Mayor and Mayoress again in the future.”
