More than 100 children and adults took part in our second annual Pumpkin Plod family fundraiser on Sunday 25 October.

Scores of children and adults wore orange and dressed up as pumpkins for the sponsored 2k, 5k and 10k walks, which started from the hospice’s grounds in Woodford Green at 3pm.

The 2k and 5k walks took plodders through Epping Forest before returning along the High Road to the hospice.

Those who were more adventurous braved the 10k walk which ran through the forest and all the way up to Holly House Hospital in Buckhurst Hill who sponsored the event.

Ahead of the start Britain’s Got Talent dance group IMD Legion wowed the crowd with a dazzling display of dance moves and helped Haven House Buddies perform the Time Warp.

Marshalls lined the routes and gave out sweets and made sure everyone found their way back safely to Haven House where each participant received a medal and a free pumpkin.

A whole range of activities took place in the grounds including a tombola and face and nail painting.

Haven House’s Henry the Hound and Leyton Orient’s club mascot, Theo, also made an appearance.

Culinary highlights served in the grounds included a barbeque providing hot burgers and sausages and delicious Indian cuisine from The Voujon restaurant in Chingford.

Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House, said: “It was great to see so many pumpkins plodding through Epping Forest and raising much needed funds for local life-limited children and their families.

“We could not have put on this event without our volunteers and the support of so many people in our community.

“I would particularly like to thank our sponsors Holly House, The Voujon, Tesco Woodford Green and all other supporters for their generosity.”
