53 cyclists from a Hindu temple in Newham have raised more than £8,200 for Haven House Children’s Hospice cycling from east to West London.

Members of the SKS Swaminarayan Temple in Shaftesbury Road, Forest Gate, cycled nearly 32 miles to Willesden on Sunday 24 July.

The challenge was part of the temple’s Year of Seva - a concept within the Hindu faith which involves performing an act of kindness without expectation of reward.

Earlier this year, five members from the temple took part in a cycle ride across the Sahara which raised £15,000 for Haven House.

Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House, said: “We would like to congratulate the SKS Swaminarayan Temple for raising a fantastic amount for our hospice with their cycle ride across London and the Sahara.

“It’s really inspiring to see members of our community giving up their time to support our children and their families.”

Haven House works closely with people from all different faiths and cultures to ensure our activities are representative of our local community.
