Stories News Our London Marathon team to go the distance Sixteen inspiring runners will take on the London Marathon on Sunday 26 April, going the distance for Haven House Children’s Hospice and the seriously ill children and families we support. Over the past year, it has been a privilege to stand alongside this remarkable team as they have trained, fundraised and championed our work. Their commitment has gone far beyond the miles they will run on race day. From hosting lemonade stands to organising black-tie events, their creativity, passion and determination have been truly inspiring. Rebecca Hancock, our Community and Events Officer, who has supported the team throughout their journey, said: “Over the past year, it’s been a privilege to support this incredible team. They’ve shown unwavering commitment not only to the miles ahead, but to raising awareness and vital funds for the children and families we care for. Their efforts have truly been inspirational.” From early morning training runs with East London Runners’ Grant to specialist support from SV Sports Therapy, our runners have put in the hard work to reach the start line strong and ready. Behind every step on marathon day is a deeply personal story. While each runner has their own reason for taking part, they are all united by a shared determination to give back to the families we support: “It really is a ‘haven’ for families during extremely trying circumstances.” - Mary “The staff go above and beyond… it would be an honour to give back.” - Lucy “The care and support they provide to families is inspirational.” - Tamsin “My family have seen first-hand the brilliant work they do.” – William “It'll be the first time that I'm running a marathon and I'm generally really excited. Knowing that I'm running for such a good cause will help to keep me going on Sunday and I'm looking forward to seeing the Haven House supporters en route.” - Mary Together, our team has already raised an incredible £36,000. This could fund a Healthcare Support Worker for a full year - providing vital care for babies, children and young people at Haven House, from feeding and personal care to play and everyday activities. We would love our community to come out and support them on the day. Our Haven House cheering squad will be stationed at Mile 17 of the route, to the left of Mudchute Station. We will have signs and materials ready, and we warmly encourage supporters to bring their loudest cheers and best energy to help lift our runners when they need it most. Every runner has their own story, but together they share one powerful goal: to make a lasting difference to the lives of seriously ill children and their families. From all of us at Haven House, we wish every one of our runners the very best of luck. We will be cheering you on every step of the way. Manage Cookie Preferences
