Ilford North MP Wes Streeting visited Haven House Children’s Hospice on Friday 8 January and praised the charity for providing “exceptional” care to local-limited children and their families.

The Labour MP visited the Holistic Care Centre and met with Chief Executive Mike Palfreman.

Mr Streeting visited the hospice for the first time last year just before he was elected to Parliament in the general election.

During Friday’s visit, the MP was informed about Vision 2020, Haven House’s new five-year strategy which aims to increase the number of children that it supports in North and North East London, West Essex and East Hertfordshire to 500 per year by the end of the decade.

Wes Streeting, MP for Ilford North, said: “I was delighted to visit Haven House and learn about its plans for the year ahead.

“The hospice does fantastic work in providing exceptional care to children and families facing the most unimaginable circumstances.

“It is important to remember that children's hospices such as Haven House receive limited funding from the Government and rely almost entirely on donations.

“Therefore, all of us in Parliament have a role to play in strengthening support for the hospice sector.”

Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House, said: “It was great to see Wes at Haven House as a newly elected Member of Parliament and I was very impressed with his enthusiasm and passion for our cause.

“Wes spent considerable time in our Holistic Care Centre and really wanted to know about the full range of services that we offer for life-limited children and our plans for expansion as part of Vision 2020.

“Our local MPs play a crucial role in helping to raise awareness of Haven House and we always appreciate their time and commitment.”
