News & stories Mohamed Omer appointed trustee Haven House Children’s Hospice has appointed Mohamed Omer, a board member of the Gardens of Peace cemetery in Hainault as a new trustee. Mohamed, a founding member of the cemetery, which is the largest dedicated Muslim cemetery in the UK, has supported Haven House in Woodford Green for many years. He has previously delivered workshops to Haven House staff and volunteers about Islam, how death is viewed within the faith and advised on how Haven House can best meet the needs of the local Muslim community. Mohamed has also helped strengthen the charity’s links with local Muslim organisations. Last year, through his introduction, the Federation of Redbridge Muslim Organisations (FORMO) and its affiliates raised £10,000 for Haven House. The hospice, which serves families across North and North East London, West Essex and East Hertfordshire, supported 337 children during 2015/16 of whom approximately one-third came from Muslim families. Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House, said: “We are delighted to welcome Mohamed Omer as our new trustee. “Mohamed has been a great friend of Haven House for many years. His knowledge and expertise will be invaluable to us, as well as helping strengthen our links with Muslim and other faith communities in our local area.” Mohamed Omer said: “I am proud to join such a fantastic charity which provides incredible support to children and families in our communities. “I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Board to ensure the charity continues to go from strength to strength.” Find out more about our work with faith groups.
