A sizzling weekend of sunshine provided the perfect weather for our 15th Birthday Summer Fair sponsored by Galliard Homes on Sunday 1 July.

Haven House Patron Iain Duncan Smith MP was among more than 1,000 people to attend the annual event held in the grounds of our hospice in Woodford Green which raised nearly £13,000.

Iain also met members of Haven House’s Dad’s Group who were running a penalty shootout competition.

Haven House’s 15th birthday year was woven into the theme with children enjoying a birthday trail, face painting, games, inflatables, our pirate ship themed playground with a trampoline and even a ride on the Romford Lions train.

The event proved to be a musical extravaganza with six live musical acts on the main stage throughout the day, including 17th Pals Battalion Band, Dave Sings Swings, and a special performance of ‘Valerie’ by Haven House staff in recognition of the support we receive from the Amy Winehouse Foundation for our music therapy service.

The fair had a wealth of shopping opportunities with stalls selling clothing and toys, including items from Haven House’s charity shops.

Adults had the opportunity to quench their thirst at a Pimms station whilst a barbeque, cakes, jelly, ice cream and birthday tea rooms kept hunger at bay.

Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House, said: "Our Summer Fair is always a highlight and to raise nearly £13,000 for our hospice in our 15th birthday year is a fantastic achievement.

"We were delighted our Patron Iain Duncan Smith MP could join us. To see so many children, families and supporters enjoying our grounds in glorious sunshine was wonderful.

"We really couldn’t put on the fair without our amazing volunteers and we are so grateful for their support."
