Haven House Children’s Hospice has been left “overwhelmed by the generosity” from a Sikh community group after it donated 300 specialist toys and equipment to the charity.

The Sikh Welfare and Awareness Team (SWAT London) made the donation by purchasing items from Haven House’s Amazon Wish List after it became aware of the charity through its work with the UK Sikh Health Chaplaincy Group.

Along with use in the hospice at Woodford Green, some of the toys will also be included in Haven House’s Toy Home Loan service which provides the parents of children with life-limited or serious medical conditions with free use of specialist toys for up to three months.

Following their donation SWAT London visited Haven House on Saturday 11 June and met with children and their families as part of a Mad Hatters Tea Party.

The day consisted of a number of fun activities including games, a nature trail, face painting and the opportunity to meet animals and reptiles from the Paradise Wildfire Park in Broxbourne.

Randeep Lall from SWAT London said: “It was an absolute delight to have the opportunity to meet the children and supporting families who are part of Haven House. It was a heart warming and eye-opening visit and we all learnt so much. We all must learn to appreciate every moment we have on this beautiful planet. Life is precious.”

Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House, said: “We have been left overwhelmed by the generosity of SWAT London in purchasing so many specialist toys and equipment from our Wish List. The items will be of great use in the hospice and for our Toy Home Loan service. It was fantastic to see SWAT London at our Mad Hatters Tea Party and we are glad they had the opportunity to meet with our children and their families.”

Haven House works closely with people from all different faiths and cultures to ensure our activities are representative of our local community.
