Haven House will be ready to open a newly refurbished hospice for its families by the middle of May.

In January, Haven House launched its biggest ever refurbishment programme to upgrade its care facilities with support from Gaillard Homes, DM Thomas Foundation for Young People, Matchroom Foundation, M&G Foundation, Sir Jules Thorn Charitable Trust, Story of Christmas and the Wolfson Foundation.

Work is underway to install a larger lift which will make it easier to access the bedrooms. The facilities on the first floor are being redesigned with a new family area, wet rooms, floors and a new bedroom for teenagers. The Bereavement suite is being moved closer to the family flat to provide greater privacy.

Space inside is being increased and made more accessible with a new open-plan nurses station, wider door frames and the removal of partitions. On the ground floor a new kitchen and café means families will be able to enjoy refreshments and the area will also provide a hub for staff.

Whilst the work takes place, Haven House’s respite and residential services have been moved to the Holly Private Hospital in Buckhurst Hill.

All therapeutic support such as physiotherapy, music therapy and yoga therapy continue to be provided in Haven House’s Holistic Care Centre.

Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House, said: “We are so grateful to The Holly, our long-standing supporters for providing use of their facilities as we undertake our biggest ever refurbishment programme since opening in 2003

“The Holly’s generosity has meant that we have been able to progress smoothly and quickly with the building work and continue to offer excellent respite care for our families.

“When the work is completed by the middle of May our families and staff will have a newly refurbished hospice ready to use in our 15th birthday year.”
